A few more unusual wines that you might not usually pick but you should.
Rallo, Insolia, Sicily x2
On the west side of Sicily close to Marsala, is where Rallo Azienda Agricola calls home. Their Insolia is a straw yellow colour wine, with fresh citrussy notes and crisp apple. Persistent harmonious and mineral on the finish. Gorgeous and fresh white wine, try with a vongole!
Bruno Lupin, Roussette de Savoie Cru Frangy, Savoie x2
Before moving back to his hometown to establish his own estate, he ran the cellar at La Cave de Genève in Switzerland for many years. The Lupin estate consists of five hectares of vines in Haute-Savoie on a hillside called Les Aricoques. Bruno considers this location the best in the region due to the full southern exposure and the relatively low altitude that protects the vineyards from the cold northern winds.
The flavours are reminiscent of pear, gingerbread, spice and honey with a touch of nougat and the mouthfeel is soft, mellow and off dry. 100% Roussette
Wildeberg, Terroirs Chenin Blanc, Paarl x2
A single site Chenin Blanc from old bush vines grown on the Smuts Block which is old, dry-grown bush vines rooted in the rocky, granite seam outcrops that surface rarely in the otherwise deep, sandy loams between Table Mountain and Paarl. A nose of broad blood orange, pithy texture and a taut, wiry seam of granite texture in the finish. A great alternative to white Burgundy without paying the price!
